DR. SOLÈNE ANTOINE is a geoscientist specialized in Plate Tectonics, Earthquake mechanics, and Remote Sensing. Her work is founded on using high-resolution optical satellite imagery and numerical modeling to study earthquake surface deformation and underlying fault behaviors. She completed her PhD at Université Paris-Cité and has held postdoctoral positions at NASA JPL and Caltech, investigating surface changes related to earthquakes but also landslides, rock glaciers, dunes, and wildfires.
MEASURING EARTHQUAKES FROM SPACE | Large earthquakes produce ground deformation which patterns provide critical constraints on fault rupture processes and seismic hazard. Satellite optical remote sensing has become a powerful tool for measuring these displacements at high spatial resolution over large areas. Here, I present the analysis of a major earthquake that struck Myanmar in March 2025. The study of this event helps refine our understanding of the behavior of large strike-slip faults, including the San Andreas Fault system in California. More generally, I highlight the growing role of satellite optical geodesy in Earth Sciences, and its value for constraining physical processes and informing hazard and environment mitigation strategies.
